Where local customers find you, and where they do not

Measure and improve your Google Maps visibility with profile work, service pages, reviews, local links, and a 169-point rank map.

“Why does my competitor rank higher on Google maps even though...”

A question owners ask.

Measure the market

Your position moves with the searcher. One search from your own desk describes one point on a map with 169 of them.

A 13 by 13 grid of search points around one business7 of 169 points place the business in the top three, 59 between fourth and tenth, 103 between eleventh and twentieth, and 0 do not return it at all. The strong points cluster near the business and fall away with distance.161618161614141313141419181914161414121414141616171614141413111210111113111616161213106587811111218121288678381010151514101083212878101216149665167781413121310787428811101312141111886578913161413128985881091413141413141397889131716161514161112912141413141917171715151512131217161520

That question is rarely answered by one ranking factor. Your competitor may have a more relevant primary category, a stronger page for the service, a closer verified location, more local authority, or a better connection between those signals.

You need a diagnosis before more optimization.

We measure your visibility across the area customers search from, then work on the profile, pages, reviews, citations and local links that can change that picture. You see what was completed and how the map changed, and we do not guarantee rankings or leads.

The map above is the instrument. It separates a proximity problem from a relevance one: a sharp drop with distance points to proximity, weak results everywhere to relevance or prominence. The rank map page explains how to read it.

The map points the way. Calls and leads are the score.

The grid is a diagnostic, not the result. What we judge the work by is how many calls and form inquiries you get, and whether that number is climbing month on month. Those are wired up before the optimization starts, so there is a baseline to compare against.

A map that improves while the phone stays quiet is a signal, not a success, and it usually means the leak is further down the path: the page, the offer, or who answers.

Strengthen the signals

Five things we work on, and they have to agree with each other.

Proximity to the searcher is a key factor in the map pack, and the one nobody can change. These five are the ones that can be.

  • 1Google Business ProfileThe category, the services and the link set the local context
  • 2Service pagesEach priority service with its own search intent gets its own page, in the words people use
  • 3ReviewsRecent, authentic, answered, and asked of every eligible customer
  • 4Citations and local linksConsistent details and references from sources with a reason to mention you
  • 5The technical foundationTitles, structured data, redirects and speed the platform lets us control
Five things we work on, which have to agree with each other and with each other's pages. Which one needs the most work differs by account

Your Google Business Profile sets the local context

We review the category, the services, the description, the photos, and the link the profile points at.

Your primary category tells Google what kind of business you are, and the secondary categories, services, description, photos and attributes add supporting detail. We review those fields against what your business offers, without stuffing the name or adding categories for services you do not provide, and we align the profile with the pages on your website. Each location of a multi-location business needs its own correct details and its own landing destination. The profile page covers the fields and how the work is measured.

Service pages give each search a relevant answer

Each priority service with its own search intent gets its own page, in the words people use.

A homepage cannot explain every service in enough detail, and customers searching for a consultation, cabinet refinishing or physiotherapy are asking different questions. Each priority service gets a page that names it in customer language, says who it is for, answers the decision questions, and connects the service to the location, with service and breadcrumb structured data referencing the same business entity. The service pages page shows the structure and the anatomy of one page.

Reviews support visibility and trust

Reviews are asked of every eligible customer, never gated and never bought.

Review count is not the whole local algorithm, but recency, volume, content and owner responses shape the evidence customers see. Every eligible customer is asked through a consistent workflow, and nobody is filtered by a satisfaction score first, which is review gating. The asking lives at review requests; what happens once a review exists lives at review management.

Citations and local links establish outside support

The aim is a defensible set of references, not the longest possible list.

Your business details appear across directories, associations, local publications, suppliers and community organizations, and conflicting names, addresses or phone numbers create ambiguity. We complete one citation sweep and correct priority inconsistencies where access permits, and local link work focuses on sources with a real reason to mention your business. Placements are not guaranteed, because another publisher controls the decision. The local links page explains what makes a source worth the time.

Technical work keeps the structure readable

The plumbing underneath has to work: titles, structured data, redirects, speed.

Local SEO can stall when the platform blocks page-level titles, redirects, canonical tags, structured data, internal links or performance work. The crawl decides whether your current site can be fixed in place; if the platform prevents the work or the repair list exceeds the build, we explain the tradeoff before anything moves, and profile and review work continues while the site is prepared. How a move keeps the addresses you earned is on the migration page.

What the monthly report connects to the work done

A single number cannot show an entire service area.

Local SEO inside your growth system

Local SEO serves Market Visibility first. It also hands work to Offer Design when a service page must persuade, Insights when calls and forms must be counted, and Customer Continuity when review requests feed reputation back into discovery.

What to fix first

Come with the project you already have in mind. Before we meet, we review your website, listings and other public-facing material. During the 30-minute session, you show us how the relevant part works today. We check whether the project addresses the real constraint and what it needs to connect to. You can hire us for one part.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know the local SEO is working?
By calls and form inquiries, and whether they are climbing month on month. Those are wired up and given a baseline before the optimization starts. The 169-point map is the diagnostic that tells us where to look; it is not the score. A map that improves while the phone stays quiet means the leak is further down the path, in the page, the offer, or who answers.
How many Google reviews do I need?
There is no universal target. Recency and content matter alongside the count. A steady trickle reads as a business people are currently using, while a burst of reviews followed by eighteen months of silence reads as a business that had a good year once. Both the count and the recency matter, which is why the work is a request process that runs with every job rather than a push to hit a number.
How long does local SEO take?
Local SEO usually needs several months of consistent work, but you should not wait several months for evidence that work is happening. The monthly grid provides checkpoints while pages, profile changes, reviews, and outside references develop.
Why does my competitor rank higher with fewer reviews?
Your competitor may have a better primary category, stronger service relevance, a closer verified location, or greater local prominence. Reviews matter, but review count alone does not decide the local pack.
Can you guarantee that my business will rank first?
No. We guarantee the agreed work and measurement cadence, not rankings, leads, or a specific map position controlled by Google.
Do I need a new website for local SEO?
Not necessarily. We recommend a rebuild only when your platform blocks the required structure, performance, tracking, or ownership, or when repairing it would cost more than building it correctly.
What is a 169-point local rank map?
It is a 13 by 13 grid that checks the same local query from 169 nearby locations. It shows how visibility changes across your service area instead of reporting one position from one device.
